The department president, a leader whose path demonstrates tenacity, impact, and consistent development, is this week's Personality of the Week. He has continued to be a formidable force among his peers, having previously held the position of Vice President of the department. In addition to being a leader, he has served as a mentor to many, gaining respect for both his influence and his position. He is well-known in the department for his dedication and consistency, making him a leader to watch. Now, let us take a closer look into the leadership and character of this gentleman.
Akeeb Sefiu Adedeji (NAPAS President)
Akeeb Sefiu Adedeji is a Part Four
student of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife's Department of Public
Administration. He has established a solid reputation for leadership and
excellence. He discussed his leadership journey, duties, and the principles
that still influence his approach to departmental service in an interview with
Public Voice News Agency. When asked what inspired him to take up the role of
department head, Akeeb said that he values leadership very much. He claims that his
interest in leadership has always been motivated by the satisfaction of
positively impacting people's lives. He added that taking on the role of
president felt like a logical and thoughtful choice, one that confirmed his
conviction that he was prepared for the challenge at hand. He had previously
held the position of Vice President.
Like every leadership position, the journey has not been without its challenges.
Akeeb identified pressure, especially moments of dilemma, as one of the major
hurdles he has faced so far. He
clarified, though, that his best strategy for handling such circumstances has
been patience. He said that as a result of these experiences, he has learned to
approach problems calmly and deliberately rather than with excessive anxiety. He
summed up his leadership style as inclusive and responsive when asked how those
closest to him would characterize it. He feels that this strategy enables him
to guide others while being receptive to suggestions and criticism. He also
disclosed that he achieves balance outside of his presidential responsibilities
by reading, lecturing, and taking time for introspection activities that keep
him focused and rejuvenated.
"What
is worth doing is worth doing well" is a personal tenet that directs
Akeeb's leadership and academic endeavors. He underlined the value of being
ready, pointing out that presumptions frequently don't accurately reflect the
circumstances of life. According to him, credibility is still a crucial
leadership quality since it creates opportunities and fosters trust,
particularly during trying times. He said that his first few months in office were eye-opening, especially in terms of realizing the significance of democratic and equitable leadership. In the future, he will continue to
prioritize fostering departmental unity and strengthening academic achievement,
which he believes are essential to the association's advancement and stability.
