"Screams, Sachets, and Sinners: What Really Happened at the NAPAS Movie Night"

As the National Association of Public Administration Students (NAPAS) Week 2023/2024 unfolds, Tuesday evening brought a thrilling cinematic experience to the Public Administration Postgraduate Hall. The third event in the week's lineup, the Movie Night, featured a screening of Ryan Coogler's 2025 horror-thriller, Sinners, captivating attendees with its blend of historical realism and supernatural horror.

Setting the Scene

The Postgraduate Hall transformed into an impromptu cinema, with students gathering in anticipation. The atmosphere was electric, as sachets of popcorn were distributed, and the lights dimmed, signaling the start of the evening's feature.

About the Film: 'Sinners'

Sinners is a genre-blending film set in 1932 Mississippi. It follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan, who return home after World War I and a stint in Chicago's underworld. Their plan to open a juke joint for the Black community takes a dark turn when supernatural forces, drawn by their cousin Sammie's (Miles Caton) musical talent, threaten their endeavor. The film delves into themes of cultural appropriation, historical trauma, and the resilience of Black artistry.

Audience Reception

The screening elicited a range of emotions from the audience. Moments of tension were met with gasps, while scenes highlighting the characters' resilience drew applause. The film's rich narrative and compelling performances sparked discussions among attendees, many of whom lingered after the credits to share their thoughts.

Looking Ahead

NAPAS Week continues today, Wednesday, June 4th, with the Trade Fair and the highly anticipated HOD's Cup Final at the Mainbowl. These events promise to showcase the entrepreneurial spirit and athletic prowess of the student body.

Stay tuned for more updates as NAPAS Week 2023/2024 continues to celebrate the diverse talents and interests of the Public Administration community.
