The delay in distribution had already raised eyebrows, with students, especially freshers, growing restless after months of waiting. Expectations were high. But when the Financial Secretary, through the Public Relations Officer (PRO), invited students to the Departmental President’s office for collection, the excitement fizzled into frustration.
Present at the collection point were the Financial Secretary, the PRO, and the General Secretary. For stalites, the package consisted of just one item: a department-branded crest.
“It’s not just about getting something it’s about getting something useful,” said Oluwatobiloba, a Part 3 student. “There should’ve been options. Most of us don’t even find the crest appealing.”
Another Part 3 student, Oreoluwa, shared similar sentiments: “The package isn’t thoughtful at all. I honestly don’t see any student using that crest.”
Freshmen did not fare much better. Their supposed welcome package included a substandard bag with sticker labels already peeling off and a department booklet that was miles from being the best we have seen in the department.
Christopher, a Part 1 student, summed up the growing anger, stating in Yoruba: “E da owo wa pada”—“Refund us our money.”
Students across all levels have called for better planning, greater transparency, and a commitment to delivering packages that justify the dues paid. The consensus is clear: items must reflect both value and functionality.
With confidence in the executive council now shaken, students hope this feedback will spark a shift in future disbursements toward quality, accountability, and respect for student contributions.
Yes, the package does not worth it
ReplyDeleteWhy will they add sticker instead of customizing the name
No lies, I couldn’t collect the pin because it’s useless we all know that. Even if it’s one thing they want to share it should have been something useful and of good quality. A crest? Lol
ReplyDeleteImagine paying that sum of money and all u get is just a bag and a one-time book, that's so crazy
ReplyDeleteI'm yet to collect my fresher's package. There's literally no news on that and we paid. They said they would reach out to us and they never did. Please do something about it
