Welcoming the Future: Highlights from the Maiden FADSA Freshers’ Symposium

The Faculty of Administration Students Association (FADSA) hosted its maiden Freshers’ Symposium today, Friday, January 17, 2025, at ICAN Lecture Theatre, Obafemi Awolowo University. The event, which started around 11 AM, was designed to welcome and guide new students as they begin their academic journey.

The symposium began with a warm welcome from the Vice President of FADSA, Jimoh Jumoke, who officially opened the event. This was followed by the recitation of the Nigerian and OAU anthems. Afterwards, the entire FADSA executive team was introduced, from the President to the Assistant General Secretary, giving freshers a chance to meet their student leaders.

Seated at the high table were esteemed faculty members, including:

  • Prof. Fagbohun, the Dean of the Faculty of Administration
  • Dr. B.W. Shiyanbade, FADSA Staff Adviser
  • Dr. John Olayiwola, FADSA Staff Adviser
  • Dr. Bello, representing Prof. Taiwo Olaiya, HOD of Public Administration
  • Dr. (Mrs.) Salawu, Vice Dean of the Faculty
  • Other members of the Faculty Administrative Staff

Also in attendance were executive members from various departmental associations within the Faculty of Administration, showing support for the freshers and the faculty-wide collaboration among students.

Words of Wisdom from the Faculty

Dr. B.W. Shiyanbade took the stage to advise freshers on the core courses they should focus on while studying. He also encouraged students to explore their talents, emphasizing that OAU offers a platform for students to grow, whether in academics, sports, music, or dance.

Dr. John Olayiwola also stressed the importance of these core courses, urging students to remain serious and focused in their academic pursuits.

Prof. Fagbohun, the Dean of the Faculty of Administration, gave a powerful speech on school life, discipline, and academic excellence. He highlighted the need for proper planning, attending classes, participating in tutorials, and staying committed to studying in order to succeed and graduate with flying colors.

Games, Prizes, and Financial Empowerment

To make the event even more exciting, Cowry Wise showcased their financial support initiatives for students. They also brought prizes to be won, adding to the excitement of the day. The Zedcrest Wealth Team also engaged the students in interactive tasks, rewarding winners with prizes.

Of course, no great event ends without Item 7! Refreshments were shared with everyone, bringing smiles all around.

Closing Moments

At exactly 1:56 PM, the event officially ended with a closing prayer led by the Vice President, Jimoh Jumoke. Freshers and attendees then gathered to capture the moment with photos, marking the end of a truly memorable day.

With this maiden edition setting a strong foundation, the FADSA Freshers’ Symposium promises to be a tradition that will continue to guide and inspire future students in the Faculty of Administration.
