Embracing a Growth Mindset

by: Mould Precious

Imagine unlocking a world where every challenge fuels your growth, every setback sharpens your resolve, and every piece of feedback propels you forward. This is the power of a growth mindset—the belief that abilities and intelligence can be cultivated through dedication, effort, and an unwavering commitment to learning. Psychologist Carol Dweck introduced this transformative concept, redefining how we view success, failure, and the pursuit of excellence. In stark contrast to a fixed mindset, where talents are seen as unchangeable, embracing a growth mindset invites limitless possibilities for both personal and professional fulfillment.

At its core, a growth mindset shifts the focus from performance to learning. Imagine seeing challenges not as roadblocks but as stepping stones to sharpen your skills. With this mindset, difficult tasks transform from intimidating to inspiring. Thomas Edison perfectly captured this idea when he famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Setbacks cease to be failures; they become lessons, nurturing resilience and igniting perseverance to reach greater heights.

But it doesn’t stop there. A growth mindset thrives on feedback. Rather than shrinking from constructive criticism, those who adopt this perspective see it as a treasure trove of insights. Feedback becomes a tool for refinement, not a mark of inadequacy. It fosters collaboration, builds stronger relationships, and creates an environment where growth is celebrated. This openness fuels confidence and paves the way for continuous improvement.

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “I’m not good at this” or “I can’t do it”? These thoughts can be powerful barriers, but a growth mindset encourages reframing them. Swapping self-doubt for affirmations like “I’ll improve with practice” or “I haven’t mastered this yet” can completely transform your outlook. These simple shifts in language plant seeds of optimism, helping you rise to challenges with renewed energy and determination.

The beauty of a growth mindset is its universal application. In the classroom, students who believe in their ability to grow often outperform their peers. In the workplace, employees with this mindset are more innovative, adaptable, and driven to take on leadership roles. Even in personal pursuits, a growth mindset inspires individuals to explore new hobbies, strengthen relationships, and embrace experiences that enrich their lives.

Embracing this mindset is not just about self-improvement; it’s about transforming your journey. The road to adopting a growth mindset may be tough, but its rewards are life-changing. As Carol Dweck so powerfully states, “Becoming is better than being.” So, take the leap. Open your mind to the endless possibilities that await, and let the growth mindset propel you into a future filled with purpose, progress, and boundless potential.

THE LION

"THE LION" it's a term used overtime to describe the doggedness and tenacity of previous speakers of the public administration house of parliament in delivering its constitutional duties and it has become a conventional norms going forward. On the 21st of December 2023 at the post graduate lecture theater the parliamentary sitting of the house held,  having in attendance quite a numerous number of students from different constituencies. The sitting which started on a cozy note with various financial updates from different offices ends up in a state of dilemma between the offices of the director of socials and the financial secretary of the department. This brought about their suspension as the both of them seem not to agree on some financial statement and documentation, therefore the house of  parliament in it's wisdom suspended the director of socials  (ADEDAYO ADEAGBO) and the financial secretary ( ADEBAYO WASIU)for a period of a week starting from the end of the...

Schooled in the Chemistry of Football: Public Administration Fails the First Test.

Public Administration struggled to convert their opportunities—a performance reminiscent of a certain team from the red half of Manchester. Chemistry finally broke the deadlock with a clinical strike from their rig...
