PUBLIC VOICE: ANNUAL PRESS DAY

 ALKUKO EMMANUEL OLUWABUKUNMI 


The Public Voice News Agency from the department of Public Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University  hosted its annual Press Day, which is themed "The Role of Journalism in Society" on Friday 31st of May, 2024 at PG Lecture Theatre, Department of Public Administratio, Faculty of Administration, OAU. 

The event which was anchored by the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the news agency Miss Nelly Umahi, served as an avenue to prepare young aspiring journalist on the road ahead in the field of journalism. It contained a Keynote Speaker in person of Mrs Petera, Guest Speaker Mr Oluwatosin Ologun and a special guest of honor Mr Fatteh Hamid.

The host of the Event and the Editor-in-Chief of the news agency Mr Aluko Emmanuel Oluwabukunmi, highlighted the importance of the press day and the evolution of the event, he welcomed everyone and encouraged them to have an engaging and educative moment.


Speaking on the theme of the 2024 Press Day via Google meet, the keynote speaker Mrs Petra Mei a seasoned journalist form South Africa enlightened and inspired the audience on various perspectives as to the impact and importance of journalism.

Owing the stage as a second speaker Mr Oluwatosin Ologun a multimedia journalist from Agidigbo FM , Ibadan stated various challenges encountered by journalist and gave practical examples on how to overcome them.

Lastly Mr Fatteh Hamid a journalist from Punch Nigeria Limited spoke on the importance of practicing safe journalism highlighting the fact that no story worth one's life. 

Questions were asked by the audience and answered by the speakers, there were breakout sessions as well which  involved games and brain teasers.

Present at the event was the Staff Adviser of the news agency Dr Shiyanbade W.B, The President National Association of Public Administration Students (NAPAS) Odejide Janet, The President of the Association of Campus Journalist (OAU)  Mr Gbolahan Latinwo, The Chairman Guild of Editors, Association of Campus Journalist (OAU) Mr Ayomide Emmanuel , The General Secretary National Association of Public Administration Students Mr Tomiwa....., the Public Voice Crew members and invited guests.

Breaking New Ground: HOD Unveils Exciting Academic Innovation

On February 4, 2024, the Public Voice News Agency team had the privilege of sitting down with the Head of the Department of Public Administration for an insightful conversation about the department's new program initiatives. The interview began with warm introductions, and the HOD welcomed the team with enthusiasm, sharing a brief history of the department. He highlighted its foundational role within the university, tracing its roots back to the Institute of Administration. Over time, the department has evolved, even giving rise to other departments like Local Government Studies.
